This is Halloween...This is Halloween.....oh wait....different flick....

A sour wind starts to blow, worrying Zachariah and Ukariah

The Grinch, that dastardly thief of Holy Holidays is back in another TV Special, this time saluting Halloween.  Originally broadcast on October 29th, on ABC, Halloween is Grinch Night is a classic and required Halloween viewing, though I will be honest, I hadn't actually seen it until a few years ago.

What Grinchiness lies in wait?

This time around The Who's have battened down the hatches and locked themselves up tight when a sour wind starts to blow, signaling the coming of Grinch Night......a night when The Grinch himself comes down from his mountain dwelling to cause mischief in Whoville.  It ends up falling upon young Ukariah to stop him when the young lad is blown away when trying to get to the Uphemism, which is in fact a euphemism for an outhouse.   Clever, eh?  Ukariah gets blown into Grinch territory and takes it upon himself to try and halt The Grinch's progress to Whoville.

This looks like something out of Gumby's Nightmare World.....

They're like giant Paramecium!

You'll find the usual Dr. Seuss songs and rhymes here, but you'll also find something a bit disturbing as well.  The set up is quite nice, giving and explanation of exactly why the sour wind brings Grinch night and then it follows through and gives us some creepy dreamlike landscapes.  The climax of the special, which as usual I will not shree poil, is an extravaganza of completely bonkers and gonzo Seuss creations.  Some of which I found a bit unsettling an an adult.  I imagine that some children could get nightmares from some of the phantasmagorical visuals.

Midnight Cinephile Tally

Death Toll:  It's a Dr. Seuss story.....no deaths here.

Nude O Meter:  Well, technically, I suppose The Grinch is naked.....

Things That Go Bump In The Night:  I wouldn't even begin to be able to count the amount of bizarre Seussian Creatures on display here.  Suffice to say, there's no shortage of Halloween Beasties on hand.

There are plenty of toothsome fiends roaming about on Grinch Night

Looks like Freddy taught The Grinch his ol' snake trick from Nightmare III

Final Thoughts
If you're like me and you can't wait to watch How The Grinch Stole Christmas every Holiday Season, then you'll most assuredly love Grinch Night.  No, it's nowhere near as magical and amazing as it's Christmas counterpart....but it will certainly give you a Grinch fix during the Haunting Season!

Final Rating
Three out of Five Pizza Rolls

Later Taters!
