I Was Bitten: The Walker County Incident - Cryptid Curiosity

As you may or may not know, it's Monster Week on Animal Planet.  Well, at this point it's the tale end of Monster Week, which is going to culminate with the premier of a film called The Cannibal in the Jungle....which is apparently about a guy who either survived a cannibal attack in a jungle, or murdered his friends and tried to blame it on cannibals.  Firstly, I'm not sure what the heck that has to do with animals....so I'm not sure why that movie would be debuting on Animal Planet.  Secondly....why does THIS get released yet Eli Roth's The Green Inferno languishes in distribution hell?  WHY?

Anyway, as I was watching a marathon of Monsters & Mysteries in America today (what can I say, I'm a sucker for poorly recreated supernatural events!) and I saw a commercial for I Was Bitten.  I was intrigued to say the least.  I told the Mrs. about it and we tuned in at 7pm (Eastern Standard) and settled in for what we thought was going to be a two hour documentary about a dude that had a close call with some sort of cryptid.

The show focuses on a man named Daniel who claims that he was attacked by an unknown creature while he was out in the woods one day.  His wife, Krsytal (as well as his mother and step-father) is worried about him because he's been acting rather strange.  He's become completely obsessed with finding this mystery critter and making sure that he and his family are safe.

We follow along as Daniel becomes more and more obsessed as his health seems to decline slightly.  His wife convinces him to go to the hospital to get checked out and have some tests run.  The doctor states that she cannot identify the animal that bit him from the bite marks.  The doctor also suggests that Daniel see a psychiatrist to help him work through the obvious PTSD that he's going through.  He does go to see a hypnotist at one point, hoping to help him remember some of the details that are a bit fuzzy.  The session does not go well, when Daniel becomes agitated.

************************SPOILER WARNING**************************************

I've gotta say that they had me going along hook, line and sinker.  While I won't spoil the end of this "special", I will say that I was very surprised by the end, which immediately signaled that this entire documentary had indeed been fictional.  Quite impressively, both the Mrs and I thought we were watching a bona-fide Animal Planet documentary right up until the last 10 seconds!  Sure, there were moments here and there that had me questioning exactly what in the hell was going on, but goddamned if it didn't come out of nowhere and smack me upside the head!

Having said that, it's very well done and I'll admit that I became invested in Daniel & Krystal and their life and truly wanted to see Daniel get the help he needed while simultaneously hoping to catch a glimpse of the mystery beast. Turns out, it was all a great bit shame!  Fool me once......

Cie la vie, as they say.

  2. Ya know, I'm not actually upset about it! I thought it was real for two hours and then in the last ten seconds suddenly the rug got pulled and all I can really say is "Well played!! Well played indeed!" It's been a while since a film has duped me like that!

  3. Just because the last 10 seconds were fake, does not mean the whole thing was. There is something going on in Walker County.

  4. Daniel has had alien contact and isn't crazy that is if this isnt fake... i dont believe it is fake. if you daniel are reading this feel free to contact me. i can help you understand what happened. i know i can give you clarity because you and your family need it. i wish you well and all of your family. i would advise getting out of there and as soon as possible get an M.R.I. full body scan and have the implant removed so they cannot track you before you leave. aliens and nuclear power plants go hand in hand and if you do some research you will find out truth. youtube is a wonderful thing. peace of mind is what i am offering you for free because it is mine and anyone else who knows truth to share that information when the opportunity is given. thank you and i hope you find this.

  5. Interesting theory....perhaps only the ending was faked. But that raises some questions as well. Why would they fake the ending? Why not keep it all real?

I would love to hear from Daniel if he's out there.

Brian also an interesting theory. What makes you think it was alien though?

  6. I honestly don't know if the whole thing was fake or not. The end obviously was, but that doesn't mean the whole thing was. I live in Alabama, in a much more populated area, but I know that there are weird things going down in Walker County. We hear it in the news all the time, and I have met several people that say that they want to move far away from Walker County. Now I can't say that there's mutated animals down there, because I don't live there, but there is no shortage of strange legends in Alabama, and one that I am particularly interested in are little floating orbs that come out of the ground. I was raised in a rural area in Alabama, and I have encountered them first hand. They float out from the ground, freak the animals out, and I believe that they are balls of gas, perhaps part of all this show's chemical "happenings". So maybe this is real, fake, only the ending fake, but I believe it was based on something that might've actually happened.

    1. Hi there!
I live in New England and we have no shortage of bizarre goings on around here, so I'm perfectly willing to believe that there could be something strange going on in Walker County. This is the first time I've heard about the orbs. Do you have any pictures? I'd love to see them.....even if they are balls of gas, sounds like they're pretty interesting!

If you happen to run across any news stories about Walker county, send them over my way! Perhaps I can write a follow up to this!

  7. I turned it off after about 15 minutes. I was getting a bad vibe the whole time that this was a fake show. Sort of "Mermaids" on land. What really cinched it for me was the so called "forgotten" hazmat suit in the woods. REALLY?!? I hate cable shows that pull that kind of BS. But, considering this is the channel for "Mountain Monsters:, another phoney baloney show, I can't say I'm surprised.

    1. Heh, another copy & paste job from http://cryptidz.wikia.com/wiki/Walker_County_Creature

It's enough to make me actually paranoid. As Daniel says in a soundbite poorly edited into a different scene 'the powers that be, they're covering it up.'

Probably not The Man, just disgruntled viewers angry about the ending I guess. Personally I didn't want it to end, it was so fun!

  8. The whole thing was fake. I spent 30 seconds looking into this and the film showed the typical production credits including: Casting Director.

Waste of time just like the Shooting Bigfoot show. All fake as fuck. No such things as monsters kids.

  9. I loved it. As an ex-environmental regulator (30+ years w/ state government w/ a lot of my salary paid by EPA, before I became disabled), who did my senior seminar in college on hazardous and nuclear waste disposal (both legal n illegal), I could see how someone w/out "knowledge" of how things are done, could interpret getting splashed by a "Midnight Mover" as an "animal attack". All of his physical probs, n friends' "accidents" could also be interpreted as events caused by midnight movers not wanting to get caught doing illegal dumping. Also most of the environmental details - a "strange, foggy mist", dead animal carcasses not typical of animal predation, etc., etc. can easily be attributed to midnight movers attempting to cover their activities. I just watched the mockumentary a second time, n liked it almost as much as the 1st time, a few months ago.
