What Now?

Hello Constant Reader,

As you are more than well aware, Midnight Cinephile has lost quite a bit of steam this year.  It's a bit complicated, but I've found myself drifting away from constantly droning on about movies that only (and precious few others) seem to care about.

I've tried various methods to make Midnight Cinephile a more interactive place and I can't seem to inspire much conversation among the few readers that I have.  It's become clear that I'm going about this whole thing wrong and it's taken the wind out of my sails.

I am not shutting Midnight Cinephile down, but I don't think I will be generating any new content for a little while.  I hope that those of you who do come here on a regular basis will continue to check in every now and then....maybe read some old articles until I figure out what to do with everything.

I would like to thank all of you who come here and read my bizarre little love letters to bizarre cinema.  I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season and I will see you all soon.

Much love,
Matt

  1. I can understand all too well how your feeling. The Dog Farm has been pretty inactive this year, too, but I won't pull the plug entirely. In fact, I just renewed the domain. Still though, as much as I'd like to think that my motives are pure, it does get old feeling like I'm just screaming into the abyss. For what it's worth, Midnight Cinephile has been a fixture on my blog roll since you and I first crossed paths, and you can rest assured that at least one person sees and appreciates what you do even if you don't see a comment every time.

You've built a resource to be proud of here, and someone whose interest has been piqued about some off the wall old movie may well find your appreciation of it here when they Google search. It's not fame or fortune, but your review of some old gem might be the tipping point that convinces that fan to give that particular title a look-see. It probably already happens more than you know, because think how often you visit a site, read something you like, and don't leave a comment. I do it constantly. Be proud of what you've already accomplished with Midnight Cinephile, and don't stop loving the movies this sparked this enterprise to begin with.

I'm certain you and I both will find our ways back to blogging in time. I'll be watching for that new post.

  2. Thank you for the kind words, my friend. You are absolutely correct. It's a bit frustrating sometimes, but at the same time I pride myself on being a sort of "hidden gem".....not that I think MC is a gem by any means. I do love the idea that somewhere, someone came across my review of BloodBeat, Rocktober Blood or Invasion From Inner Space and gave the flick a go, becoming a huge fan of the film. Likewise, Movies at Dog Farm has become a staple of my blog roll since we first met. It is nice to know that there are others like us out there in the aether!

I'm definitely not pulling the plug.....as a matter of fact since I first entertained the notion of taking a break from it, I've been coming up with some ideas to reinvigorate Midnight Cinephile as well as build on it's foundation. I think a big part of what was dragging me down is the fact that while I LOVE genre films....I love a lot of other stuff too and I want to write about it all. The seed has already been planted and will eventually grown into a new and terrifying beast. I don't know exactly what or how, but I do know that when I come back, it will be with a vengeance! In the mean time, it's kinda nice to be able to sit back and not always be thinking "Damnit, I should be reviewing something!"

Thank you again for the kind words, my friend!
