Get in front of these cameras. There's a hundred million women out there just waitin' to run that hair between their legs'"

Best. License Plate. Ever.

That's Tom Savini under all that make-up!

When people ask me what my absolute favorite horror film is, my usual response is "I can't pick just one."  However sometimes people are persistent and just won't accept that answer.  So if I REALLY had to cement an answer to the question, here it is:  Creepshow 2.  The quintessential 80's horror anthology film.

Let's talk a little about each segment, shall we?

Old Chief Wood'nhead

This is a supernatural revenge yarn done right.  Some of the segment's flaws are what I love the most about it:  It's exposition.  Right from the start as we watch Ray Spruce touch up the war paint on the titular wooden statue that sits out front of Spruce's General Store, we are told that this is one of many touch ups that the Chief has received over the years.  Next, we meet Ray's wife, Martha.  She wants Ray to close up shop and enjoy what time he has left.  Ray is a good man and has a strong sense of community and charity.  Martha believes that he's letting the local Native American's take advantage of him.

Spruce's General Store...why there's Ray now!  Getting ready to paint up the Chief

Ray and the Chief are best buds.  Ray sings to him while fixing his warpaint.

Ray and his wife Martha.  Ya can't help but love them...they're quite lovable!

Benjamin Whitemoon drops off the goods.

Old Chief Wood'nhead stands guard as always.

When Benjamin Whitemoon, an elder of a local tribe,  comes to Ray and entrusts him with his people's most valued treasures, which look to be a bunch of turquoise jewelry.  He tells Ray that if the tribe is unable to pay their debt to him in two autumns, the treasures are his to keep.  I always found this scene to be interesting.  As Benjamin is leaving, Martha tells him that she was just scolding Ray about being too good to his people and that they didn't deserve it.....but that he had proved her wrong.  The part I find interesting is that when she first appears from the back room as Benjamin is leaving, he says "Good Afternoon, Martha Spruce." to which she replies "Goodbye, Benjamin......that is.....Good Afternoon."  Here's what I think was going through her head:  Her plan was to take the jewels and skip town.....and something tells me that ol' Ray wouldn't have had much of a say in the matter.

Benjamin's nephew, Sam comes to pay the Spruce's a visit.

Talk about a WTF moment.....it's pretty clear this was not part of the plan.....

........to late now............

KABLAAM!

Goodbye, Ray.

The Chief is all kinda pissed now.

That plan would never get realized however because Sam Whitemoon (Bejamin's nephew) along with his pals Rich Boy and Fat Stuff (charming nicknames, eh?) hold up the Spruces at shotgun point.  Apparently Sam and Co. are headed out to Hollywood where Sam is going to become a movie start because he's been growing out his hair for 9 years.  "This hair is going to get me paid and laid" he says.  After the goons take what they want from the store, Sam holds the shotgun to Martha and demands the jewels his Uncle had just delivered.  Let's just say things don't end up going well and the Spruce's are slain and their store shot up.
This naturally spurs Old Chief Wood'nhead, the silent sentinel that has stood guard over Spruces General Store, to come to life and exact a brutal and bloody revenge on the young criminals.

The sequence in which Sam shoots the Spruce's is another interesting bit to me.  To me, it is quite apparent that Sam did not mean to pull the trigger, killing Martha.  The look of shock on his face however is quickly replaced with a grim resolve to see his actions through as he turns the barrel on Ray and guns him down.  Fat Stuff immediately vomits, crying that he'd "Never seen nothin' like that before..." to which Sam replies "Well now you've seen it.....and now you're going to forget it."  I always took this to be more than Sam intimidating Fat Stuff.  Sam was also telling himself to forget what just transpired.  As the three of them speed off in Rich Boy's Firebird, Old Chief Woodn' head awakens and let's out an eerie and quite disturbing yell/howl.

Fat Stuff meets his end at the tip of The Chief's arrows.

Rich Boy doesn't do much better.  He get's Tomahawked.

The Chief comes for Sam last......

One more point of interest here, is the continuity of the three punks being hunted down by The Chief.  Before each of them dies, they are shown in their respective homes with a scene from "The Cisco Kid" playing on TV.  I've often wondered exactly what the relevance and meaning behind this was.  This continues into the next segment in a way......

The Raft

The next segment follows a group of college students that are going up to a lake for some autumn swimming.  Apparently there's a raft in the middle of the lake that the kids want to swim out to.  Why?  Who the fuck knows!  They're college kids and they've got weed, so why no smoke it on a raft in the middle of a lake!  What could possibly go wrong?  Am I right?  Eh?  Eh?

Nothing like driving out to the middle of nowhere with some pot!  What could go wrong!

Deke charges in to the lake

Pretty sure his outtie is now and innie

Randy follows suit.  Dumb ass.

This story is a little lighter on exposition as the opening scenes show the quartet in Deke's car, heading to the lake,  There's pot smoking and a lot of "The raft better be there, cause we've been driving 50 miles" type dialog.  Once they arrive at the lake, Deke immediately strips down to his yellow speedos and jumps in the freezing water.  He taunts Randy into the water "Come on Cisco" he says "Oh Poncho..." replies Randy.  Boom.  Another Cisco Kid reference!  What the hell is it with The Cisco Kid?

While swimming to the raft, Randy sees a bird getting swallowed up by some goop in the lake.  After reaching the raft, and seeing how far out the girls are, he yells for them to hurry up.  The group thinks he's still high and seeing things.  He tries to explain that it looked like that goop was going after the girls.  Well, the goop is actually referred to as an oil slick at first.  Though Randy recants how he and Rachael would go to Cape Cod and help wash oil off ducks and such.  He tells the group how the oil slick they saw was just a chaotic mess....but this....thing that they were looking at looked like it had a purpose.

"Don't tip the raft.....don't tip the raft...."

Yep.  Pot should warm us up!

"Hey Rachael don't get too close to the..."  GLOOP  "Damnit"

Well, wouldn't ya know it, someone had to get it.  Rachel gets a little too close to the oil slick monster and it lunges a gooey tentacle (sorta) at her and pulls her in.  She is then dissolved fairly quickly, but quite painfully.  I suppose it's better than being digested by the Sarlaac pit over a thousand years.

Deke is next to go when the slick monster floats under the raft and the kids find out the hard way that they need to stand on the wooden boards and not expose any skin to the cracks between the boards.  Poor Deke.  He gets sucked down through the raft and it looks like gets bent in half in the process.

Yeah....let's leave the car running!  I wanna listen to some tunes....

There is no yoga or pilates in the world that would get you ready for that...

Oil Slick Monster 2, College Kids 0

Randy and Laverne end up spending the entire night on the raft, watching the thing and making sure it doesn't go back under the raft.  Of course, they both fall asleep and in true 80's horror movie fashion, after Randy wakes up, he lives up to his name and decides to expose Lavern's boobs and feel her up, while doing a piss poor job of keeping one eye on the oil slick monster.  This scene actually makes me giggle a bit.  As Laverne is sleeping and Randy is running his hands all over her, we hear her moan.  "Okay,"  you start to think  "She's slightly into it, even if she's sleeping".  Well that all ends abruptly.  See in order to fondle her lady bumps, Randy lays her down on the raft.  He then completely forgets about the creature as his latent sexual impulses take over.  Bad move Randy.  Laverne's eyes pop open and as she turns her head to the camera, we see that ol' Mr. Oil Slick Monster has drifted back under the raft and has started snacking on the side of her face.

I know there's an oil slick monster trying to eat us but.......

Well that's not good.

Wow, that really got exacerbated quickly, didn't it?

Poor Laverne, didn't even get properly felt up before dying.

While I love this segment as much as the first, there is much less context to it.  This segment plays very campy and that's exactly how it should be.  Everything comes together perfectly, from the rock music that continues to play out of the car, which they left running, to the crushing isolation that the surviring (and constantly dwindling) kids feel as they realize that they are trapped on this raft in the middle of nowhere.  As Randy puts it:  "No one knows we're out here....no one at all."  Little pieces of dialog clue you in that this segment takes place somewhere between September and October.  So who knows how long it would be before someone came up to take in the raft or do whatever lake caretakers do before the heavy frost hits.  All he would find would be the abandoned car, with it's battery dead.

The Raft is a perfect middle ground between the sentient wooden Indian and the lonely and intensely person terror that is.......

The Hitchhiker

This segment is, I think, the creepiest....but it's also probably the cheesiest and funniest of the lot, too.  Lois Chiles plays Annie Lansing, the adulteress wife of a lawyer.  Having gone for a carnal visit with her man toy, she awakens to find that the power has gone out and she is going to be late getting home and have to explain to her husband where she was.

I'm just a Gigalo.....

Mrs. Lansing is running late!

The majority of this segment takes place in Annie's car as she rushes to make it  20 miles in about 7 minutes.  Yeah, that might happen.  As Annie drives along she plans out her defense, trying to come up with a viable excuse for where she was.  After lighting a cigarette on a lonely, dark stretch of road, she drops said ciggy and swerves dangerously across the road.  She desperately tries to correct course and ends up plowing right into a hitchhiker, killing him immediately.

Twenty Miles in Seven Minutes.....no problem.

Road Pizza!

Stephen King:  Truck Driver

Annie starts to get out of the car, but when she see's headlights she hightails it out of there, leaving the dead man on the road.  She continues to talk to herself, now wondering if she can live with the guilt of killing a man and walking away.  The monologue is actually quite hilarious and culminates in her seeing the dead hitchhiker appear on the side of the road.  She slams on the breaks, but when she looks behind her, there's nothing there....and that's when she delivers the best line ever:  "You're seeing things, Bitch!"

0_o

Yeah, I would probably be making the same face.

"Thanks for the ride, Lady!"
Of course that's when the hitchhiker reappears at her door and says "Thanks for the ride, lady!" for the first of many, many times.  That actually is where a big part of the dark comedy comes from.  No matter what she does, the hitchhiker is always right there.  She runs him over, shoots him and rams him into a tree over and over.....still he reappears....."Thanks for the ride, lady!"

Just driving around the woods with a zombie ghost on my roof...

He's starting to look a little......er......goopy.

So much for roads......

Hitchhiker.....meet Tree.  Tree....meet Hitchhiker.

He'll be okay......right?

It's fun to see the hitchhiker as he gets more and more fucked up as Annie does everything in her power to rid herself of the spectral menace.  You can't help but ask yourself what you would do in the same situation.  Some of Annie's detours into the woods are a bit on the questionable side, but again, it's all part of the fun.  If you are looking for completely logical horror then you've come to the wrong place.  Just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Midnight Cinephile Tally

Death Toll
Old Chief Wood'nhead:  We get 5 deaths in this one.  Not too shabby!
The Raft:  4 nubile young people meet their grisly end!
The Hitchhiker:  2!  Hey, it's not always about body count.....
That's a total of 11, folks!  Unless you want to count the cartoon interludes, in which case that total would be upped to 14!

Nude-O-Meter
Old Chief Wood'nhead:  Nadda, amigo.
The Raft:  We get a good look at Laverne's breasts!
The Hitchhiker:  Annie gives us a quick glance at her boobs as she's dressing.
So all in all, we get two pair!

Things that Go Bump In The Night:
Old Chief Wood'nhead:  Supernatural Wooden Indian Chief.
The Raft:  Oil Slick Monster
The Hitchhiker:  The Hitchhiker himself gets all kinda jacked up.  He's like a ghost zombie.  Sorta.
Three monsters....one per segment.  Not bad!  If you wanna add the giant venus flytraps from the animated wraparound segments, then we get FOUR monsters!

Final Thoughts
I read somewhere that Creepshow 2 was originally supposed to have five segments, much like the first one.  One of which was The Cat From Hell, which ended up being used in Tales From The Darkside:  The Movie....which is essentially an unofficial Creepshow 3.  I think that these three segments ended up balancing out perfectly between each other.  I think that each of the segments holds up well on their own, where as the first Creepshow had a few weaker segments.  Not that the first film or any of the segments were bad....just a bit unbalanced, I thought.  As I said before if I absolutely HAD to pick a favorite horror flick, then my final answer would have to be Creepshow 2

Bruce Campbell Confirms Army of Darkness 2!!!!!!!!!

It's official!  Bruce Campbell confirmed at Wizard World Nashville Comic Con that the tales of a fourth original Evil Dead film are true and that he would in fact be returning to play Ash.  Campbell  was asked by a fan if he would be making the sequel and he had this to stay:

“The last one was twenty-two years ago. I just haven’t been racing to do it. Sam Raimi is just a little bit busy making the biggest movies in Hollywood. I used to be busy. Now I’m not. That’s why I’m here."

In typical Campbell fashion, he continued:

“Ash would have to stop occasionally from chasing some Deadite to catch his breath. Maybe we could do that, I guess. That would be exciting. Fight in a walker.......that would be alright. Hit them with my cane. Fake them out, have a fake heart attack, distract a zombie. I like it.”

Then finished with:

"Alright Sir, the answer is yes."

Raimi has already started writing the script and according to IMDb, we should expect to see the new film sometime in 2016.

Groovy.

The Vampire Bat - The Night Brings Sharp Teeth

What exactly is in the beeker, anyway?

While The Vampire Bat is undeniably low budget and it most certainly was cashing in on the Universal monster films that were out at the time, the film still functions quite well on it's own merit.   The story involves a rash of murders in the quiet German village of  Kleinschloss.  It seems that people are being discovered dead in their beds with their blood completely drained.  It seems the only clue is two small puncture marks on the neck.  Naturally the village suspicions turn to a resurgence in vampirism....though police inspector Karl Brettschneider doesn't believe in vampires and sets off looking for a human killer.

Poor Herman is always getting pushed around by the townfolk.

It isn't long before accusations start to fly towards Herman, a mentally retarded man who has a fondness for bats.  As the town hunts down poor Herman, Karl works with Dr. Otto Von Niemann to uncover the identity of the killer.  Oddly, the good doctor seems to have no problem going along with the whole vampire thing, which is a change from the usual "scientist rejects all claims of the supernatural" schtick they usually pull.  The movie takes a few turns and twists.  The revelation of the killer was actually a bit of a surprise to me.  Whether that be because I was a little sleepy when I watched it or because this is a very well crafted thriller, I'll let you decide.

Now poor Herman is being HUNTED by the townfolk.....nothing like a lynch mob in the morning.....

The Vampire Bat was released by Majestic Pictures, who I had never heard of before.  They produced 24 pictures between 1930 and 1935 before fading into obscurity.  Of the 24 films produced there is only one other that I've ever heard of:  The Phantom Express (1932).  Majestic also functioned as a distributor....having distributed 25 films, none of which I've ever heard of.

Midnight Cinephile Tally

Death Toll:  We've got six deaths during the film, and several others that are mentioned.

Nude-O-Meter:  No sir....there isn't even a rumbling on the the meter....

Things That Go Bump In The Night:  There are foul creatures afoot in the night.  Are there really vampires?  I'm not telling.

Final Thoughts
This is a murder mystery wrapped up in a vampire motif and it lends itself quite nicely to a dark and stormy night.  At a mere 65 minutes you can fit this film in just about anywhere on a Halloween Horror Moviethon.  Definitely worth a watch for fans of classic horror flicks

This is Halloween...This is Halloween.....oh wait....different flick....

A sour wind starts to blow, worrying Zachariah and Ukariah

The Grinch, that dastardly thief of Holy Holidays is back in another TV Special, this time saluting Halloween.  Originally broadcast on October 29th, on ABC, Halloween is Grinch Night is a classic and required Halloween viewing, though I will be honest, I hadn't actually seen it until a few years ago.

What Grinchiness lies in wait?

This time around The Who's have battened down the hatches and locked themselves up tight when a sour wind starts to blow, signaling the coming of Grinch Night......a night when The Grinch himself comes down from his mountain dwelling to cause mischief in Whoville.  It ends up falling upon young Ukariah to stop him when the young lad is blown away when trying to get to the Uphemism, which is in fact a euphemism for an outhouse.   Clever, eh?  Ukariah gets blown into Grinch territory and takes it upon himself to try and halt The Grinch's progress to Whoville.

This looks like something out of Gumby's Nightmare World.....

They're like giant Paramecium!

You'll find the usual Dr. Seuss songs and rhymes here, but you'll also find something a bit disturbing as well.  The set up is quite nice, giving and explanation of exactly why the sour wind brings Grinch night and then it follows through and gives us some creepy dreamlike landscapes.  The climax of the special, which as usual I will not shree poil, is an extravaganza of completely bonkers and gonzo Seuss creations.  Some of which I found a bit unsettling an an adult.  I imagine that some children could get nightmares from some of the phantasmagorical visuals.

Midnight Cinephile Tally

Death Toll:  It's a Dr. Seuss story.....no deaths here.

Nude O Meter:  Well, technically, I suppose The Grinch is naked.....

Things That Go Bump In The Night:  I wouldn't even begin to be able to count the amount of bizarre Seussian Creatures on display here.  Suffice to say, there's no shortage of Halloween Beasties on hand.

There are plenty of toothsome fiends roaming about on Grinch Night

Looks like Freddy taught The Grinch his ol' snake trick from Nightmare III

Final Thoughts
If you're like me and you can't wait to watch How The Grinch Stole Christmas every Holiday Season, then you'll most assuredly love Grinch Night.  No, it's nowhere near as magical and amazing as it's Christmas counterpart....but it will certainly give you a Grinch fix during the Haunting Season!

Rocktober Blood - Rock and Roll Will Never Die

Now THAT's a title screen!

Hhhmm...not exactly a "metal" backdrop, is it?

I've spoken many a time about my beloved Video Paradise, the mom & pop video shop that I haunted in my youth.  Today however, I will actually be waxing poetic about Blockbuster Video.  I know, it sickens me a little too, but hear me out.  See, Video Paradise had a fantastic selection of movies, but unfortunately, being a mom & pop shop, they didn't have a LARGE selection.  When Blockbuster Video first came to our town, we were blown away by the shear size and scope of the place.  Now I'm talking Blockbuster from the early to mid 90's....back when they still had at least a little style.

The first time I walked down the horror aisle, I was amazed at how many films they had that I'd been wanting to see.  So many new and exciting titles staring back at me.  One that kept eluding me was none other than Rocktober Blood.  The cover art was awesome.  A dude wearing a fright mask and brandishing a big bloody knife was carrying off a scantily clad girl.  This was surely the kind of horror flick that my adolescent self could get behind.  Every weekend I went and every weekend, I was let down to find that it was gone again.  Finally I asked about it, and after some questionable looks from the employee, I was told that the tape was actually lost and the box was taken off the shelf.

Get used to shots of these boots....yer gonna see a lot of 'em!

TILT!

Life went on and I forgot about Rocktober Blood until a little while ago, when I came across a battered copy on a VHS hunt.  I was so excited that my hands actually shook a little as I clutched the tape.  Now at long last, I can proudly say that I own the film...and that I've seen it multiple times!

Okay, so what's this all about?  We start in a recording studio where Billy "Eye" and his band are recording tracks for their album.  After a long night the band calls it quits.  Bill heads off saying that he has a "hot date", which pisses off his pseudo-girlfriend/back-up singer Lynn Starling.  After Billy leaves, Lynn lays down some harmonies and then decides to take a soak in the Jacuzzi while Kevin, the sound engineer decides to have a beer and relax with a game of pinball in the game room.  A killer enters the studio and slices Kevin's throat.  He also murders another girl by impaling her on a coat peg on the wall.  Lynn comes back downstairs and is nearly killed by Billy herself.

Why is nothing even near this awesome anymore?

He's back!  The man behind the mask!

It's not an 80's horror flick with out scenes of aerobics!

Flash forward two years, Lynn has taken control of the band and renamed it Headmistress.  I don't know what the band name was before....the original name was never mentioned.  On the ever of their Rocktober Blood '84 Tour, Billy comes back from the dead and starts the slashings anew....while stalking, taunting and terrifying Lynn every step of the way.  With each new murder, Lynn tries to tell everyone that Billy is back from the dead but of course, no one believes her.  The climax of the film is pretty cliched, especially by today's standards, but it works nicely in the context of the film.

Midnight Cinephile Tally

Death Toll  We get a body count of seven here.  There are some throat slashings, an impalement, a drowning, a beheading, some dismembering and even some disemboweling!

Nude O Meter  There are a couple of scenes in which Lynn takes it all off to take a Jaccuzi or a bath.  So you pervs can get the pause button ready!

Things That Go Bump In The Night  Well you've got Billy, the undead rock star killing folks and there's also an incredibly cheesy corpse in a casket.

Whoa!  He cut off her head with a steak knife!

Crooner of the year?

Final Thoughts
Rocktober Blood is one of those films that just hits all the right notes for me.  It's campy and cheesy, yet still manages to capture a creep factor as well.  The acting is absolutely terrible, but that all adds to the charm, I think.  If you're into low budget Metalsploitation flicks, then you should definitely check this one out.

If you wanna see Rocktober Blood, you can easily find the entire film on You Tube.  If you want to own it, you'll need to get it on VHS, or you'll need a region free DVD player because it's only been released overseas.  I think it's about high time it receive a proper deluxe US Blu Ray release.  I'll get right on that.

I should also point out that the soundtrack was done by three different metal bands:  Sorcerer, Facedown and The Eyes.  The soundtrack is actually pretty incredible and I'm on the hunt for it now.

Jones Halloween Soda - Hitting Your Taste Buds Up With A Dose of Nostalgia

With the Halloween Season in full swing now, I took a little trip down to Target.  They always seem to have the best Halloween themed products (I'm looking at YOU Candy Corn flavored Oreos!) and hands down the BEST Halloween Candy selection I've ever seen!  All those delicious treats can make you a bit thirst though.  What to do.....what to do......I know!  How about some Halloween Soda!

The Jones Soda Company has partnered up with Target to exclusively sell their line of Halloween inspired soda flavors.  They come in an 8oz. can and they are beyond awesome.  There are four flavors in all....so let's check 'em out!

Candy Corn

First up we've got Candy Corn flavor!  The can itself is awesome with a vicious Paul Naschy lookin' werewolf snarling.  I think it's pretty awesome that they didn't just go for some goofy "kiddie toon" werewolf.  Naw, this beast will rip you up and ruin your night if he gets a hold on you! That's what I'm talking 'bout!

When I cracked open the can, there was a very heavy sugary smell.  Which is pretty much what I expected from a Candy Corn flavored soda.  The color is a very appropriate and Halloweeny orange.  There was a fair amount of fizz which I liked.  Flat soda sucks.

Okay, enough lookin' at it, let's give it a sip......

If I was blindfolded and I tasted this, my first guess might be some sort of extra sweet cream soda.  After the first sip more of the the candy corn flavor comes through.  If you like candy corn, then I would imagine that you'd like this.  Definitely not that kinda soda that you'd wanna chug....but it makes for a nice sipping drink while watching The Werewolf vs. The Vampire Woman!

Blood Orange

Next up, Blood Orange!  This can is awesome.  The vampire on it reminds me of the vampire shown on the cover of the NES game Monster Party...so automatically it gets awesome points!  Look!  Told ya!  When I was picking this up at the store, I actually didn't look at what the flavor was, and I thought it was a grape flavor!  Only when I cracked it open did I realize it was orange.

When I opened the can, I was surprised to be greeted by a dry orange smell.  When I say dry, I mean it's not super sweet smelling like Sunkist or Fanta....it smelled more like Polar's Orange drink....you know the one, right?   The color is an orange/red color, which is quite fitting for a blood orange!

Time to taste......

This one is actually really good!  It has a bit of a bitterness to it, just like a blood orange and it does have that "dry" kinda thing going on which is hard to explain, but I really enjoyed this one!  Highly recommended, though I must say that of all the flavors, this one does not evoke a Halloween feel...

Caramel Apple

Of all the flavors, I was most excited to try this one.  I LOVE candy apples....especially the caramel ones.  Once again, the artwork on the can is outstanding.  We've got a goopy zombie with an eyeball hanging out.  It kinda reminds me of a Madball.  Remember Madballs?  Those things were awesome.

I was downright surprised when I opened this can up!  It actually smelled like caramel apples!  This one definitely gets the prize for best smelling of the bunch.  Thoughts of making caramel apples as a kid flooded my memory.  Opening this can instantly transported me to many a Halloween past.  As I poured it into the glass, I was surprised to find that it had a the appearance of cola.  I'm not sure what color I was expecting.....but the color really isn't all that important, now is it?

Okay, let's take a sip of this bad boy.......

Hhmmm....the caramel comes through quite strong with a sorta apple finish to it.  This reminds me a bit of caramel apple Milky Way bars they're selling this year.  It's really hard to describe.  I think that this is about as close to caramel apple as one can possibly get with a soda.  After a few more sips and some contemplation, I must say I do like it quite a bit!

Flavor Rating:
B+

Red Licorice

Frankenstein adorns the can of the last flavor.  Once again the artwork is great.  Looks life Frankie got a little jacked up here.  Reminds me of the low budget schlock films from the 60's and 70's.  I'm not talking about the Hammer Frankenstein films...oh no....I mean the SCHLOCKY ones, like Dracula vs Frankenstein!

When I cracked this one open, I was expecting a strong fruity/sugary smell.  Instead I got....well....almost nothing.  There was a very faint smell but I couldn't quite put my finger on it.  Undeterred, I poured myself a glass (by the way....if you decide to review soda......take you're time.  Don't be like me and drink four cans in a ten minute span......that's just dumb.) and was pleased to see a nice bright red color.

Last flavor....let's see how it tastes.......

Wow.  Strictly from an emulation standpoint, I would have to say that they nailed it!  This tastes like they took Red Vines and liquefied them.  I'm not going to lie, I was hoping for more of a Twizzler flavor, but this is really quite good.  I wish I had a Twizzler that I could use as a straw!  This being the last of the flavors, I decided to get a handful of ice and enjoy this at a slower pace.  The insane amount of sugar coursing through my veins demanded it!

Flavor Rating:
A-

I've had other stuff from Jones Soda before and I've yet to find a flavor that I dislike, so I knew going into this that I was more than likely going to enjoy each of these.  If I had to put these in order of preference (which is not based solely on flavor, but on full presentation and ability to maximize Halloween fun!) it would go a little something like this:

#1 Red Licorice
#2 Caramel Apple
#3 Blood Orange
#4 Candy Corn

I've been sipping on my Red Licorice soda while writing this review and I just took the last sip.  I think I might be addicted to it now.  The thought that it will disappear like so many specters at the end of the season has me in a panic attack.  I need to stock up.  I'm probably going to to become addicted to the others as well.

Welp....thems the breaks!

I leave you now with some Spooky Fun:
