Midnight Cinephile's SECOND award: The Liebster Award!

I am deeply honored to be the recipient of the prestigious Liebster Award.  I would like to take a moment and thank my friend Cassie Carnage from Cassie Carnage's House of Horror for nominating me for the award!  I am truly humbled and honored.

Now as tradition dictates, I must answer 11 questions and then nominate 11 other bloggers who have less than 200 followers.  Groovy!

So let's get down to the guts and gravy here, shall we?

Oh first we should go over the rules, shouldn't we?  Okay  here are the rules as I found them exactly on Cassie's House of Horrors:

MY ELEVEN QUESTIONS!

1. What angers you the most when watching a movie in theaters?
People talking during the movie angers me to no end.  I absolutely cannot stand it and I have gotten myself in trouble more than once because of it.  Word of advice:  When you are in the "bad" part of town because it has the only theater showing the film you wanted to see, make sure you know where your exits are when you proceed to tell a drugged up thug to shut up.  Nearly getting stabbed to death in a dingy, dirty movie theater (while it would be an ironic and fitting end to a trash film cinephile) is not really how I planned to make my grand exit!

2. What do you love about watching movies in theaters?
I absolutely love when the entire audience is mesmerized by a film.  You truly start to feel as though you are now part of a collective consciousness that is experiencing something truly amazing.  I also love when you get a really fun loving audience watching a good ol' B-Movie.  You know....when they root for the slasher and laugh at all the right parts (and the ones the filmmakers didn't intend but are just too damn funny!).  I think that there is something truly magical in the theater experience.

3. Name a movie you never want to watch. Ever.
There is no movie that I won't watch at least once.  I wasn't always like that though.  Back when I was a young and impetuous young lad, I refused to watch lots of different movies because they didn't have monsters or aliens or alien monsters in them.  After being coerced into watching Harvey (with Jimmy Stewart) I fell in love with classic films.  While the world of horror/sci-fi/cult cinema will always be my first love, I do love all genres and all periods of cinema.


4. Name a movie you're ashamed you haven't seen yet.
I am truly ashamed to admit that I have never seen Lawrence of Arabia.  A classic film that is on virtually every top ten cinema list.  I really should also watch Citizen Kane in it's entirety.  I've only seen it in bits and pieces....and that's really pretty shameful on my part.


5. Favorite weekend hangout?
My day job works on a rotating schedule so I only get every other weekend off.  So when I'm off, there's nothing I like better than hunkering down with some films, some snacks and of course my beautiful wife...especially during the winter months.  In the warmer weather we tend to venture out more and seek out new experiences.....but my favorite place is right at home, Castle Cinephile.

6. Favorite band or music artist for the past week?
Over the past week, I've really rediscovered my love for Zombina and the Skeletones.  I've also discovered and really gotten into The Bloody Hammers, The Independents  as well as The Spookshow and Ghost B.C.  It's been quite the aural adventure to say the least.  Oh, by the way, if you're into punk rock, check out Zombina's new album, Charnel House Rock....you won't regret it!

7. 3D. Yay or Nay?
HELL YES to 3D!  Is 3D a gimmick?  Yes.  Yes it is.  And it's a gimmick I've been in love with since I was a snot nosed little brat running around in the 80's.  I don't care if it's old school red/cyan anaglyph glasses or the new-fangled polarized 3D found in theaters today.  If there's an option to watch a film in 3D, I'm in.  There are many naysayers out there who put 3D down and say that it "insults the movie....blah blah blah" and those people I say "Pfffffft".  The moral of the story.....we all like different things.  If we all liked the same thing it would be a boring world.

8. Name a movie you wish you could have been on the set while it was filming.
I wish that I could have been on the set on Evil Dead II.  I'm sure it must have been a blast to hang with Sam Raimi, Greg Nicotero and Bruce Campbell.  It looks like they had a lot of fun making that film.  I would have also loved to have been on set for ANY of Ed Wood's films.  That must have been a trip and a half!  I have a feeling that if I were alive when Ed Wood was making films, we would have been good friends.

9. How do you stream movies (Computer, Blu-ray Player, Game Consoles like PS4 and Wii)?
I stream through my PC, PS3, XBOX 360 and Wii.  Eventually I will get the new gen consoles (Those suckers are expensive!)  I also stream a lot on my phone and on my wife's Kindle Fire every now and then.

10. What are your top five favorite movie podcasts to listen to?
Top Five Favorite Podcasts:  
Killer POV - Rebekah McKendry of Fangoria, Rob Galluzzo of the now defunct FearNet &  Elric Kane from Inside Horror discuss horror and have tons of interesting guests on.  They have a very comfortable chemistry that makes it feel like your just hanging out and listening to very knowledgeable friends talk horror!

Monster Island Resort:  Miguel Rodriguez hosts this fantastic show covering a wide variety of horror topics.  A great listen!  MIR is a proud member of MOSS - The Mysterious Order of the Skeleton Suit.  I don't know exactly what that means...but ooooooh, it's mysterious!

B-Movie Cast:  B-Movies, Cult moves, Interviews, Art house, Independent, Drive-In, Horror, Biker Euro Trash, DVD, Magazines, Music, Tradeshows, Expos, Italian thrillers, Exploitation, Vintage TV, Gear and Pop Culture. Whew!  That is a lot to cover, but Vince & Co. do a damn fine job!

Horror Etc:  Hosted by King’s Town Ted and Anthony D.P. Mann.  Horror Etc usually runs with a specific theme each episode and they are very knowledgeable fellows.  Another fantastic listen and one that is in constant rotation in my podcast listening.

Outside the Cinema:  Outside The Cinema is a weekly podcast that focuses on to cult movies of all kinds. We feature films running the gamut from Horror to Exploitation to Noir and Martial Arts and back. You know that random video you got on VHS from some random mom and pop video store when you were 12? Yeah, we covered it. So sit back and enjoy the OTC ride.  A podcast after my own heart!


11. Who is your movie celebrity crush? You have to answer for both guys and girls.
Guys AND girls eh?  Ooooh, naughty!  Okay well let's break it up into two camps and see what's what!

Girls:  First and foremost...my most giant celebrity crush is Olivia Munn.  She's the total package.  Gorgeous, intelligent, great personality (from what I've seen and read....it's not like I stalk her or anything......cause that would be.....you know........0_o) and she's not afraid to let her nerd flag fly.  What's not to love?  Olivia has been my only real celebrity crush until the Marvel movies started.....then I went and started crushing pretty hard on Scarlett Johansson.  I'm thinking I'm pretty close to convincing the Mrs. to take them on as sister wives.

Guys:  Well, now I'm not sure that you'd call it a crush, but I sure wish that Chris Hardwick would be my best friend.  I'm pretty sure we were either separated at birth or grown in the same test tube batch or something.  We don't look anything alike, but dang we're two peas in a pod when it comes to the nerd factor.  Someday me, Chris and Johnny Depp are going to take a road trip to the San Diego Comic-Con.  Yeah....it's gonna be the nerd version of the Hangover.....only no one ends up on the roof.....and we don't run afoul of any gangsters or anything.  So....yeah....whenever you guys wanna go just.....you know.....gimme a ring.


Well that was exciting wasn't it?  I feel like you guys got a good glimpse of the strange life of your humble host.  Now comes the fun part where I get to wield my God-like power and start bestowing awards like some sort of eleven-tentacled-benevolent-award-giving-Cthulhu!  Here we go!
